As Promised
I promised a while ago to post a picture of our new home here in Augusta. It took me 4 months, so I hope it was worth the wait!
We live in a small neighborhood with a mix of young couples and retired couples/individuals. Our backyard runs right up against a park, which is sketchy at night but a great place for Disc Golf by day!
We’ll probably only be in this particular house for a year, but believe me – this will have been a great year… This is a much-needed step away from apartment living, and we are not taking that for granted!
Also – Augusta in the fall… very nice. Low 80′s and minimal humidity – starts to make up for some of the brutality of the summer heat… some, not all, but some.
It’s Fall

Here is a quick list of some good things going on and a few not-so-good things going on… Some directly relate to the attached photo (others do not).

The NOT-So-GOOD:
1) Gas Prices (though it is incentive to get my bike tuned up and start getting some much needed cardio)
2) The Economy & the way it’s distracting from the glorious Autumn season (and the subsequent weekends saturated with football)
3) No end in sight for “mowing” of the grass here in Augusta!
The GOOD:
1) Fantasy Football
2) College Football
3) JMU beating App State (I predict the Dukes are headed to the playoffs again, and dare I say… a Championship Title!)
4) A mild and extended Autumn in warm (and progressively less humid) Augusta
5) An upcoming camping trip with my lovely bride…
I love Fall and despite Market Woe and Gas Price Gouging – This is the best season of the year and I plan on enjoying it to it’s fullest!
2 years…
Hard to believe, but tomorrow is our (Hilary and myself) 2 year anniversary! Alot happens in 2 years, but at the same time it flies by and you wonder how it’s possible it’s been 2 years. In other words its an intellectually puzzling situation. But puzzling as it may be… it’s been an excellent couple years!
Thinking about the past 2 years, let me tell you about the little circle we have made over the past 2 years… (please note: this story revolves around weather issues)
Well it all started (married life that is) in a little place known as Macon, GA. It was a bright clear August day in the heart of Georgia. From the window of an air conditioned hotel room it looked like a gorgeous day, upon stepping foot outside the lobby in shorts and a t-shirt, the bright sunshine and the clear skies were immediately eclipsed by oppressive “nature sweat” (aka: humidity) – the feeling of beading sweat was unwanted but unstoppable (and this was earlyish morning pre-tux and pre-2 o’clock wedding).
Off to the church to meet the photographer and to get tuxed. There were many many pictures taken… and even though it was a beautiful church with ample AC, the beads of sweat remained and in fact multiplied. But the beauty of the service and the beauty of the bride eclipsed Macon’s best attempts to smother joy with humidity. (Noah 1; Nature 0)
Our honeymoon took us to Atlanta – slightly less humid (but almost imperceptibly so).
Then to Asheville, NC. And the humidity lost it’s edge. A gorgeous bride and mountain air. (Noah 2; Nature 0)
We returned to our first home: Charlotte, NC. Humid at times yes, but much less than say… Macon. For most of the months of the year, the weather was great and Hilary and I enjoyed dinners @ sidewalk cafes, long walks through beautiful neighborhoods where other people lived, and open air concerts. Charlotte for 2 years. (Noah 3; Nature 0)
2 Months ago we completed the circle. We are now once again in Georgia (Augusta to be exact). The week we moved in: 3 days topped 100. The humidity could be cut with a knife. (Noah 3; Nature 1) It felt as if we had returned to Macon (but better since it’s home of the Masters). We moved here at the beginning of the summer… and we have been warned that the summer is indeed brutal, but that the other three seasons are a delight.
So regardless of humidity, Augusta is home and we’re settling in nicely. We’ve made the circle from humid to humid, but Augusta and Georgia are fast eclipsing the effect of “nature sweat” in the pleasant demeanor of so many Georgians, the beauty of the architecture, and the exciting prospects Augusta holds for a young married couple with a house to buy, children to have, and pets to continue avoiding! (Noah 4; Nature 1)
(I’d be remiss though if I did not mention a non humidity related issue – the bugs of Georgia have caught my bride off guard – she’s not a bug person. So unfortunately the score is closer than we’d like [Noah 4; Nature 2]. But on the + side: Hilary has killed [on her own] more spiders in the past 2 months than the previous 24+ years prior! [of course the number of spiders she killed prior to Augusta was a whopping total of less than 5, but none the less...])
Happy Noah & Hilary’s 2nd Anniversary to ALL!
Safe & Sound
Hey All,
We have arrived safe and sound in Augusta. Actually we arrived 6 days ago, so we’ve been safe and sound in GA for almost a week. We’re still getting settled in (aka – Hilary is hard at work putting our life in order and I am hard at work trying to get her to take multiple breaks for movies and general Augusta exploration).
I’ll post pictures of the house soon, for those of you who are interested. As a teaser – it’s a cottage, and it’s pale yellow.
Also, not this week but probably next, I’ll start posting “mid-weeks” for your reading pleasure… unsure of what a mid-week is? click here.
The Move is Tomorrow
it’s finally upon us. a few boxes left to pack. an apartment to “deep” clean (not sure exactly what a “deep” clean is, but i have a feeling i will become very well acquainted with its nuances over the next 24 hours). our truck will more than likely be large and yellow, and i’m looking forward to the man-sized puzzle of packing boxes, sofas, chairs, tables, a washer & dryer, and various odds and ends into the back of our penske. luckily i love a good challenge (and the longer i spend packing those boxes in the truck the less time i am on “deep cleaning detail).
we’ve enjoyed our last few days in Charlotte – dinner @ The Oceanaire & an evening @ the Dean & Deluca Wine Bar. but it’s time to get going, Augusta is calling and we’re ready. so keep us in your prayers and check back for updates! (we’ll be without internet access for a week or so – thus if you don’t find any updates for a few days don’t worry, we haven’t been taken as political prisoners, nor are we in the witness protection program… just disconnected and surrounded by boxes)
